Parent Handbook

Discipline

23.1.4  A center will not use the following disciplinary practices:

23.1.4.1  Physical punishment of any type, including shaking, biting, hitting, pinching, or putting anything on or in a child’s mouth;
23.1.4.2  Withdrawal of food, rest, bathroom access, or outdoor activities;
23.1.4.3  Abusive or profane language, including yelling;
23.1.4.4  Any form of public or private humiliation, including threats of physical punishment, and/or
23.1.4.5  Unsupervised separation

Discipline is meant to be clearly understood by the child, consistent, and explained to the child before and at the time of any action.  Discipline is to encourage the child to be fair, to respect property, and to assume personal responsibility and responsibility for others.  The caregiver is responsible for informing parents about unacceptable behavior on the day it occurs.  Parents shall also be informed of disciplinary measures taken.

If the child has constant or serious disciplinary problems, a letter will be sent to the parents for resolution.  If the behavior continues, the Ark Director will request a meeting with the parent(s) to discuss the behavior problems.

If the child’s behavior still remains unacceptable, the Ark reserves the right to withdraw the child from the program and terminate the contract with the parents or guardians.
