Habitat for Humanity

of Española Valley & Los Alamos

Habitat for Humanity EV/LA is an ecumenical, Christian ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing from the world and make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. People from all walks of life work together in this endeavor. Habitat for Humanity's mission is to eliminate poverty housing by assisting families in need who are willing to partner and able to repay a 0% mortgage that is below market value. Each homeowner family is required to work 500 “sweat equity” hours, either on their own home or on another Habitat project. This reduces the cost of the house and increases the pride of ownership among the family members. HfH funds the building of homes and the local ReStore makes building materials available at low cost so that people can afford to purchase materials to repair and maintain their homes.
