Covenant relationship: since 1974 the Covenant Relationship Program has enabled United Methodist congregations to surround mission personnel with love and prayer and in turn understand the place of service and its people, culture, traditions, and religious life.  The mutual connection calls for the church to participate in the work of the missionary through financial and prayerful support, as well and mission education, and for that missionary to share with the church firsthand experiences in mission.  Through this program both congregation and a missions personnel promise enter into an ongoing and dynamic relationship with on anther whether they are geographically near or far away, the local church and the supported missionary agree to communicate regularly, to uphold each other in prayer, and to meet face-to-face during itineration assignment.   It is an established relationship usually with a missionary to support their efforts for a specified length of time.
