Rwanda Mission - March 23-April 6

Aaron Goldman will be traveling with Church World Services to observe the work being done by this organization in Africa.

BELIZE SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION MISSION TEAM APRIL 3-11

April 3-11, 2008 sixteen persons (12 from Los Alamos, two from Albuquerque, and two from El Paso) will travel to Belize to help with new construction on the Boom Methodist School buildings in the village of Burrell Boom, located approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Belize City.  We will stay less than a mile from the worksite at the Black Orchid Resort which, because it is owned by a Methodist, will provide us deeply discounted rates for good quality food and lodging.

Our tasks there will involve interior plaster work, hanging of doors, possibly interior electrical work and the placement of plumbing fixtures.  Since school will be in session during our stay, we also plan to interact with the children on a daily basis, providing the equivalent of a “Vacation Bible School” to them.  The official language of Belize is English, so relatively little linguistic challenge will be presented, although Spanish and Creole are widely spoken.

About half of the persons planning to constitute this Volunteers in Mission team are “veterans” of previous mission trips, the other half are first-timers.  We are praying that God will present us ample opportunities to positively represent our Lord and Savior to the precious people of Belize in both deed and word.

Sager Brown Mission - May 4-8

Six women from our church's United Methodist Women's group are traveling to Sager Brown Warehouse in Louisiana to work for United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) which distributes materials to people in need throughout the world on behalf of Methodists from all over the country. On their last day in Louisiana, they are extending their trek to New Orleans where they will look into how we can set up a mission to help the hurricane victims there who are still in great need of help.

Special Missions Meeting - May 12

Tonight's meeting at 6 pm will deal solely with our annual Christmas boxes program. We will discuss how last year's program went and look forward to this year's project. We will discuss any changes that we want to make in how we operate the program.

Family Mission Trip - May 30-June 1
Four Corners

We are planning a family mission trip to the Four Corners area to visit our new Navajo friends May 30-June 1. This will be an easy first mission trip for all ages, no heavy construction involved. There are accommodations for sleeping and cooking. It will be a very inexpensive trip (probably around $50/family for the trip.) We need someone to head the music portion of the trip, someone to head the crafts and games portion, and someone to head the crew which does any painting, easy construction and clean-up. Reserve places for you and your family now by calling Ann. Details to follow soon.
