City Wide Worship & PrayerFounding DocumentWhat: City-Wide Worship and Prayer Spiritual authority: The Word of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit Central Location: First United Methodist Church, 715 Diamond Drive, Los Alamos, NM 87544 When: Beginning May 8, 2003 How: "Stop and go" weekly worship and prayer during noon hour, Thursdays, 11:30 am-1 pm Why: People in our community are hurting because of the war with Iraq; mounting tension with North Korea; heightened terrorist alerts; loved ones and friends deployed to foreign soil; fear of potential chemical and biological attacks; loss of University of California management of the Los Alamos National Laboratory; loss of feeling safe and secure; unsaved loved ones; serious illnesses and deaths; and losses because of the fire, drought, bark beetle damage, etc. Ministry offered: Worship; prayer for the World, Nation, County, Community, military; miscellaneous; and personal miistry as requrested Who will come: The wounded, those hungry for more of the Lord, those referred by Christian councelors and pastors, the Los Alamos workforce and High School Students, those called to ministry, etc. Ministry providers: Interdenominational Christian teams made up of a leader, musicians and/or worship leader, pray-ers, and those called to minister to spiritual, physical, and emotional needs (youth and adults) Training: As neede through specific classes, books, conferences, and mentorship Leadership: Lay leadership/coordination with pastors serving as spiritual covering and advisors with the ability to participate on teams as desired Sponsors: FUMC for start up (short-term); participating Christian churches (long-term) Development into long-term ministry: Through an interdenominational Steering Committee made up of representatives from participating Christian churches Costs: Minimal for start-up--heating/cooling Sanctuary one additional day per week; correspondence; postage; announcements; and advertising Preparatory work: Years of prayer, spiritual warfare, systematic prayer walking Los Alamos and White Rock, and increasing interdenominational cooperation, teaming, and activities have established the foundation and paved the way. Anticipated outcome: Spreading the gospel; demonstrating unity of the Christian community serving together with a powerful witness to unbelievers; sharing the Word of God and His promises; bringing people into the presence of God; displacing fear, worry, anxiety, and uncertainty with the fruit of the Spirit; meeting needs through the love of Christ; reaching out to the unchurched; making and training disciples (including yout); giving youth a greater opportunity to serve; salvation, healing deliverance; and increased spiritual power and authority with potential for miracles, signs and wonders Back to City-Wide Table of Contents |
