CHAPTER ELEVEN
SUNDAY MORNING, APRIL 19, 2009
PASTOR DAVE RING
LOS ALAMOS 1ST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

After two weeks' break there from, we return to a "sermonic study" of the Gospel of John. It's my intention to preach and teach us through John's Gospel, with occasional interruptions, throughout the first half of 2009.

John 11:1-16 Reports of the illness and subsequent death of Lazarus

"This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory…"

_______________________________________________________

Lazarus dies, and Jesus' reaction confuses the disciples
_______________________________________________________

John 11:17-37 Jesus offers comfort - while simultaneously teaching

"If only you had been here" (beforehand)
_______________________________________________________

"I am the resurrection and the life"
_______________________________________________________

Jesus weeps - but perhaps for reasons other than the obvious
_______________________________________________________

John 11:38-44 Jesus raises Lazarus

Believe - and see the glory of God
_______________________________________________________

"Lazarus, come out!"
_______________________________________________________

John 11:45-57 No good deed should go unpunished

The Sanhedrin says it's time to plan the elimination of Jesus
_______________________________________________________

Caiaphas the high priest prophesies - this time it really is time
_______________________________________________________

The stage is now set for the final act

Next week we'll continue with John 12. Please continue to read ahead
and meditate upon the Gospel of John.
