"JOHN'S GOSPEL -- CHAPTER TWELVE"
SUNDAY MORNING, APRIL 26, 2009
PASTOR DAVE RING
LOS ALAMOS 1ST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

We are now past the halfway point in a "sermonic study" of the Gospel of John. It's my intention to preach and teach us through John's Gospel, with occasional interruptions, throughout the first half of 2009.

John 12:1-8 Jesus is anointed by Mary while in Bethany

Mary's act of loving devotion to Jesus
_______________________________________________________

Judas' objection (for ulterior motives)
_______________________________________________________

Jesus' "strange" interpretation of Mary's act
_______________________________________________________

John 12:9-11 A plot to kill Lazarus

Is there "ironic humor" in John's notation of this?
______________________________________________________

John 12:12-19 The "triumphal" entry into Jerusalem

The literal meaning of "Hosanna!"
_______________________________________________________

No one (except Jesus) understands the real significance of all this
_______________________________________________________

John 12:20-36 Jesus' time is growing even shorter

Jesus teaches/emphasizes the "reversals" of the Kingdom
_______________________________________________________

The Father speaks on Jesus' behalf
_______________________________________________________

Who is the "Son of Man?"
_______________________________________________________

John 12:37-50 Jesus continues to try, over and over again

John interprets the unbelief of the Jews as predicted by Isaiah
_______________________________________________________

Jesus freely offers eternal life; some accept, some reject (just like now)
_______________________________________________________

Next week we'll continue with John 13. Please continue to read ahead!
