"JOHN'S GOSPEL -- CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE" We have been, since early January, pursuing a "sermonic study" of the Gospel of John. Today we reach the conclusion thereof, with John's lengthy account of one of Jesus' post-Resurrection appearances. John 21:1-14 Fishers of fish experience breakfast with the Savior An earlier miracle is renewed Peter is overly eager to please Jesus sticks with mundane matters for a while John 21:15-19 Peter is reinstated as a disciple Jesus repeatedly asks a tough question Peter is "hurt" by Jesus' insistence - but it gets his attention Jesus prophesies Peter's martyrdom John 21:20-24 Peter and John are "very human" disciples Rivalry even in the presence of the Resurrected Lord John makes oblique reference to his unusually long lifespan John 21:25 There's more to be said Jesus did many other important things which are not written down Thank you for persevering through this six-month sermonic study of the Gospel of John. I suggest that, in the week ahead, you re-read the entire gospel in a single sitting to better experience it as a connected narrative.
