Beginning today and continuing for the following four weeks I'll be both preaching and teaching the letter of I John. (This is intended as a "follow up" to last year's January-to-June series of messages on the Gospel of John.)

Some Preliminary Thoughts

1. Remembering who John was

I John 1

Verse 1 - This is reminiscent of the Gospel of John, chapter 1

Verse 2 - Eternal life is the heart of the Christian proclamation

Verse 3 - Desire to broadly extend the fellowship of the saints

Verse 4 - Joy!

Verse 5 - God is light and only light

Verse 6 - Can't live in darkness while claiming to be children of light

Verse 7 - The fellowship of the saints; the importance of Jesus' blood

Verse 8 - We're all innately sinners

Verse 9 - If we admit our failings, Jesus will accept and cleanse us from them

Verse 10 - Those who claim righteousness without Jesus are kidding themselves
