"I JOHN: A LOVE LETTER TO GOD'S PEOPLE" PASTOR DAVE RING With this message we are completing a series of sermon "teaching" messages on the Biblical letter I John. Brief Review 1. Who John was, what he wrote, his affinity for "L" words 2. I John 1 - Walk in the light; let Jesus be your righteousness 3. I John 2 - Obey God and love humanity, even in the face of opposition and persecution, for the long term _______________________________________________________ 4. I John 3 - God loves us enough to call us children. The evidence of our close relation to God is our similar close relation to our fellow humans. 5. I John 4 - The "love chapter" within this love letter. I John 4:7 is the most memorable verse in the letter; it ranks close to John 3: 16 in being wonderfully significant. I John 5 Verses 1-5 Restatement of three basic premises from earlier in the letter: Love God, believe in Jesus, obey God's commands Verses 6-12 Three kinds of "testimony" - the Spirit, the water, and the blood Verses 13-15 Confidence in salvation for the future as well as God's providence here and now Verses 16-21 Repetition of prior warnings regarding sin, especially idolatry Back to Church Sermons Table of Contents |
