The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The program's approach seriously considers the model of Christ's servanthood and encourages Christ's disciples to act in ways appropriate to being "a servant of all." More information. As participants conclude their Walk to Emmaus weekends, they are introduced to the concept of the Fourth Day -- a symbol of the days of Christian pilgrimage that follow the three-day Emmaus experience. The Walk to Emmaus is a unique opportunity to reflect on one's faith journey and make a deeper commitment to Christ. In fact, "the whole reason for The Walk to Emmaus is to make you a more faithful disciple and active member in your church." Thus, the Fourth Day is central to the Emmaus experience, as it extends each individual's experience beyond the weekend and into life in the world. First United Methodist Church hosts such a Fourth Day community--the Cottonwood Community. This is a monthly interdenominational gathering of people who have attended a Walk to Emmaus, Cursillo, or Tres Dias. This group meets on the first Monday of the month: 6:00 pm for a potluck meal in the Fellowship Hall followed by worship and fellowship at 7:00 pm in the Friendship Center. Visitors are welcome.
